A Haven for Nature and Biodiversity

Henderson Park is a thriving habitat for local wildlife. It is home to a diverse collection of over 100 mature trees across 22 different species – including Lime, Ash, Oak, Silver Birch, London Plane, Maple, and Horse Chestnut.
We are committed to active conservation and enhancing biodiversity through:

  • Protected Heritage: 41 of our trees are safeguarded by Tree Preservation Orders (TPOs), ensuring these vital natural assets are protected for future generations.
  • Expert Stewardship: Our grounds are meticulously maintained by qualified arborists and our dedicated Facilities Operative. Since 2005, we have proudly planted over 150 new trees to ensure the park’s future.

Wildlife Spotting:

Keep your eyes on the skies! The park is a haven for Red Kites, Buzzards, Kestrels, and Woodpeckers. At dusk, you might even spot bats hunting along the park edges as they travel between the river and the Bowthorpe Road cemetery.

The park has stunning panoramic views of the west of the City and has lots of things to do, including:

  • Lots of open space to walk well-controlled dogs – but please remember to clear up after your dog!
  • An enclosed basketball/5-a-side football pitch
  • An enclosed toddlers play area with swings, slides and rockers
  • Children’s play areas with climbing frames and swings
  • Climbing rocks
  • Lots of space to run around
  • Outdoor gym equipment
  • Full-sized cinder running track
  • Natural areas of wild flowers and meadowland
