‘Not About The Bike’ – An Introduction
Not About the Bike is Henderson Trust’s bike project. Based at the Henderson Business Centre, NAB is about much more than bicycles. After school workshops, drop-in sessions and events are all delivered from our purpose-built workshop while pop-up workshops and led rides can happen anywhere in the community! Building bikes is what we do but we also teach basic bike maintenance, team work, and simple graphic design. All sessions are free to attend.

Henderson Young Leaders
Long standing community project ‘Not About The Bike’ is now offering their 11-16’s the opportunity to qualify as ‘Young Leaders’.
As a follow on from completing both workbooks and joining the Thursday ‘Elite’ sessions, & most likely building a bike or two from scratch, Henderson Young Leaders is a natural next step.
Young Leaders are given rolls & responsibilities within the three weekly NAB youth after School sessions.
In short they are given authority to help run the sessions and in return are given bicycle related incentives such as a new parts budget.
The hope is that this helps their confidence in preparation of work, education or training beyond secondary School.

Donating & Buying Bikes
Bike Donations
We currently rely exclusively on kind bike donations from the public for the parts we use for repairs, to fix and give away or to fix and sell for the charity. We accept bikes of any age or condition however we only ask that they have been dry-stored please.
Buying Bikes From The Charity
We usually have ten or more reasonably priced fully serviced bicycles on our charity’s Ebay shop – Please click link below for details and current listings. *Our Ebay profile is currently being relaunched as an official charity store – sorry for any short-term inconvenience*.

Do I need to for book adult drop-ins?
For the Wednesday adult drop-in sessions simply arrive between 10 & 1.
For the 11-16’s after school sessions on 4-6 on Tuesdays, Wednesdays & Thursdays (‘Elite’ only) attendees can arrive at any point.
How can my child join the 11-16’s after School sessions?
Please be aware that new under 18 members will have to collect a printed consent form for a parent or guardian to complete. There is a short H&S introduction & explanation of workshop rules that follows and then it’s straight into repairs and mods!
Please note also for any bicycle built and gifted to after school group members there needs a bike donation consent form signed by parent/guardian.
Please see our safeguarding policies below.
Do sessions run all year?
Periodically staff are on leave so be sure to check our NAB Google profile for dates away but staff permitting the sessions keep running through the School Holidays.
Is it really free?
Yes – the three weekly 11-16’s sessions and 18+ drop-in are completely free of charge. Stock permitting you can have access to our vast stock of good used spare parts and access to new basic consumables likes cables and blocks. Should you need a specific new part we can show you what part you need and advise you as to where to buy from if needed.
Bikes built in the 11-16’s groups are free on receipt of a signed consent form from parent/guardian however due to current supply we don’t currently offer free bikes to adults as we have done in previous years due to stock limitations.
Do you ever ban youth attendees?
Yes – rarely. On occasion over the years we have been forced to ban individuals for the benefit & safety of the group. This is only following several verbal warnings and reminders of the workshop rules including not only safe use of tools & equipment but also being being respectful of other attendees and staff. We don’t tolerate any offensive, violent or unsafe behaviour in our sessions – this won’t be tolerated at NAB. Please click here to view our workshop rules.
